July 2026 brought 6.95 inches of rain to Splendora — up 32% from July 2025’s 5.28 inches — with the largest event on July 14 delivering 2.16 inches in a single day. For a small community built alongside the San Jacinto River, that storm was consequential. The San Jacinto, which runs along Splendora’s eastern boundary, rose significantly following the July 14 event, and floodplain areas along the river banks held standing water for more than a week after the storm cleared. The mosquito surge that followed tracked directly to those flooded river margins.
Mosquito pressure in Splendora was concentrated along the San Jacinto River corridor and in low-lying residential areas that drain toward the river. At 93°F average highs and 79% humidity, standing water from the July 14 event produced biting adults within 6–7 days. We completed 9 mosquito barrier treatments in the Splendora area in July — up 27% versus the same period last year — with the majority of requests coming in between July 15–23 as the post-storm breeding cycle peaked.
Splendora’s rural agricultural character — with pastures, wooded lots, and working drainage ditches — creates fire ant and tick pressure that is structurally different from suburban communities to the south. The July 14 event displaced colonies throughout the area, and our technicians logged above-average mound counts along fence lines, pasture edges, and around agricultural equipment pads in the post-storm period. Fire ant activity is running 18% above the same period last year.
The San Jacinto River corridor also supports elevated wildlife activity that brings tick exposure closer to residential edges than most communities see. The 93°F average high drove cockroaches indoors through the second half of July. General pest control accounted for 20 of our 33 July stops in the Splendora area.
