July 2026 was the wettest month Pearland has seen in recent years, and pest activity reflected every inch of it. The area received 8.25 inches of rainfall over 11 separate events — a 45% increase over July 2025’s already-above-average 5.69 inches. The standout event was July 14, when 3.25 inches fell in a single day across southern Brazoria County. For a low-lying community built on former Gulf Coast prairie with limited natural drainage elevation, that storm created standing water conditions that persisted in some areas for the better part of a week. The resulting mosquito surge was the most intense we’ve tracked in Pearland this year.
Mosquito treatment demand in Pearland reached its highest point of 2026 in the two weeks following the July 14 storm. Clear Creek, Hickory Slough, and the drainage retention areas threaded throughout Shadow Creek Ranch, Silverlake, and Massey Ranch all held water far longer than the storms that hit communities with better natural elevation relief. We completed 27 mosquito barrier treatments in Pearland during July — more than any other single neighborhood in our service area this month. Many customers in the Shadow Creek Ranch and Clear Creek corridor areas reported being unable to use their backyards for several days after the mid-month event.
Fire ant activity was sharply elevated following each of the month’s major rain events. Pearland’s clay-heavy soil retains moisture after heavy rain, which accelerates colony expansion and mound rebuilding. Colonies displaced by flooding migrate toward elevated ground — which in Pearland often means driveways, sidewalk edges, foundation slabs, and the raised edges of retention pond berms. Our technicians reported above-average mound counts in Southgate and the neighborhoods directly adjacent to the Pearland Town Center detention infrastructure throughout July.
With 80% average humidity and peak temperatures of 99°F on July 22nd, German cockroaches pushed indoors across the board. General pest control accounted for 59 of our 96 July stops in the Pearland area. The combination of extreme moisture and high heat makes late July through August the most active pest period Pearland homeowners face all year.
